Extended-release (ER) formulation

Also called: ER tablet

A tablet designed to release medication slowly over time, allowing once-daily dosing. An extended-release trazodone product (brand name Oleptro) was previously marketed in the United States.

Extended-release formulations aim to produce steadier blood levels with fewer peaks and troughs than immediate-release tablets taken multiple times a day. Most trazodone prescribed today in the U.S. is the immediate-release generic tablet.
